Noah's Ark Memorial
"The saddest sound in the universe ...
is the last heartbeat."

The horrendous crime against the cats and kittens in Fairfield, Iowa at the no-kill shelter, Noah's Ark on Friday, March 7, 1997 touched millions of souls around the world. Teardrops fell like rain the day I learned of this brutal and senseless tragedy. As a friend wrote to me the rainy day I learned of the incident, "God is crying for His little creatures." I have erected this memorial for those innocent kittens and cats who were so viciously attacked, terrorized, maimed, and killed. May we never forget them.
The big brave Angel cat,
Folding a rainbow wing,
Stretched out his gentle paw
I'll find, purred he,
A kitten - you were kind -
You must not grieve for me.
This one might do, this timid little stray
Terrestrial night to my celestial day;
It cannot take my place,
No other could do that, But though you cannot bring me back, you might retrace
Remembrance in a kitten's pansy-face.

A Tribute To Those Poor, Helpless Kitties
Four legs and nine lives
is this a myth or the truth
I guess we found out the answer
when our kitties were slain by that brute
Those cats will never be able
to run and play in the sun
No one can ever adopt them
one less child will learn to love
A child's first experience
with love is usually a pet
Be it a dog, cat or rabbit
it's not one they're soon to forget
Those kittens were needlessly and ruthlessly killed
Another chance was taken away
To teach children how to love and nurture
and to allow growing kittens to love and play
When you think about this tragedy
and those poor, helpless kittens come to mind
Think also of those families with kids
that the kittens left behind

All they asked was to be Loved,
And we did.
They gave us unconditional Love
And not once did they judge us,
Never once thought we didn't deserve
The Purrs given only in Love.
The Rainbow Children know we still Love
And we would have done anything to save them
Had we only known.
I ask from them Forgiveness...
For I feel I should have known.
I never saw one sweet face but
They will be always in my heart,
And remembered.

Gentle trust; a soft purr, whiskers
reaching to touch the hand of trust
and love, they ask little; love,
kindness, warmth, dignity and a soft lap
to sleep in. Furry angels feel
no more pain, no more hate.
They sleep on clouds of gossamer, and
run through endless fields of
sunshine, always watched over
and loved by God and St. Francis.

A Cat's Prayer
Although I am too proud to beg and may appear to be a very independent creature, I ask for your loving care and attention. I rely on you for my well-being much more than you may realize. This I promise you, my benefactor: that I will not be a burden on you, nor will I demand more of you than you care to give. I will be a quiet peaceful island of serenity for you to gaze upon, a soft, soothing body to caress, and I shall purr with pleasure to rest your weary ears.
Since I am a gourmet who appreciates different taste sensations, I pray you will give me a variety of nutritious foods and fresh water daily. Allow me, I pray, a warm sheltered place where I can rest peacefully and feel secure. If I am wounded in battle or suffering from disease, please tend me gently and see that I am treated by loving and competent hands.
Please protect me from the inhuman humans who would hurt and torture me for their own amusement. I am accustomed to your gentle touch and am not always suspicious enough or swift enough to avoid such malicious acts.
In my later years when my senses fail me and my infirmities become too great to bear, allow me the comfort and dignity that I desire for my closing days and help me gently in my pain or passing.
Hear this, my dear friend; my fate depends on you.

They will not go quietly,
the cats who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a meow at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them....
and always will.
~ Text from a Hallmark greeting card ~
to the sweeties now gone i wish i would have been there to save you.
to the sweeties now gone you will always be in my heart.
to the sweeties now gone none will forget the Iowa murders.
to the sweeties now gone lots of love to a better place.
to the sweeties now gone goodbye to you.
we shall remember and fight for causes like you.
