Singapore
Her Gain to Fame

"The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance, is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer, German Philosopher (1788-1860)

Please, please, all cat and animal lovers ... before you leave this site, please stop at the following targeted ones. Click on the banners below to find out the numerous ways you can help change the laws in this country and other countries around the globe. Animal abuse - from neglect to outright cruelty - is much more common than most people realize. Intentional neglect and abuse of animals often leads to neglect and abuse inflicted on humans.

We will make a difference for cats and other animals in this country and abroad. Just remember, they can think, feel emotion and suffer pain ... but they CAN'T SPEAK. Please speak for them. We can, so let's do so now.

In Singapore, American Jana Faucher determinedly spoke up in a courageous effort to help Singapore cats as her stay ran out on this island ... and so did the time for each tiny homeless life. She tried to help those little "Kucintas" (the loveable cats) in this otherwise gorgeous country.

Please send an online letter to the Prime Minister's Office encouraging the Singapore government to HELP these homeless cats - killing the thousands each month IS NOT the answer.

Speak for the cats - today!

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." ~ Gandhi

"If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men..." ~ St. Francis of Assisi

Keiko on the streets of Singapore On a miserable rainy day in Singapore, July 5, 1997 the little charming KEIKO, the mascot for Cats Voice, was found to have given his brief life on those same streets of Singapore where he was born and left to be forgotten. Keiko - loving and needy - the only human kindness he'd ever known in his tragically short life was from Jana's loving hands. Millions now know you, Sweet Keiko ... you're GONE forever, but never forgotten.

Please speak for the Singapore Animals - WE are their only voice.

Jana's artwork depicting Keiko Keiko - Jana's Art in the only place he could call home - hedges that were stripped away for ADDITIONAL tourist development.

Ever caring, ever generous, Jana gave herself no credit to the world-wide awareness of the situation in Singapore, the rescue and airlift of the four surviving Hedge Cats. Each of those little survivors is an ambassador for the Embassy of Compassion. They're what make it more than mere words. They're what has made the horror for them all resonate so strongly. We few can't save them all, but by saving a few we say they all deserve it.

Visit two little Singapore cats who Jana sent home to Canada and the Unitied States. Tigger stayed in Pennsylvania with Craig and me for a few weeks as needed, before traveling on to Canada the morning of August 7, 1997. I began a diary for Tig during her fostership in our home, and continued to add her progress the first few weeks living in a wonderful home of her own. After moving from an apartment into a house, we brought her back home to the United States from Canada, September 7, 1998. The feisty Missy, the little mother of Tig - the sole survivor of her last litter - arrived during the morning wee hours of July 31, 1997 in Florida at PetRescue.com, Inc. PetRescue.com, Inc. provides a cage-free, no kill sancutary with plenty of love and companionship from other animals and caring humans as well. How can we continue to help Missy?

Jana Cared - Why didn't Singapore?Jana CARED, but not Singapore.

However... Since the debut of Jana's plight with the strays in Singapore March 1997, there is a group diligently making an effort in the welfare of Singapore's cats and dogs, SOS Animals.

Please speak for the Singapore Animals.
WE are their only voice.

SOS for Animals offers hope and a chance of life to those animals who are needing food and medical attention. Visit and support this dedicated group of caring, compassionate individuals.

Another nonprofit organization is The Cat Welfare Society, run by volunteers and has only one employee, the Director of Operations. The Society formed in 1999 after reports of five kittens burned alive and buried in a hole sparked loud protests thoughout Singapore. Organizers discovered Alley Cats Allies' online resources while researching feral cat groups worldwide. CWS teaches the public that there is a humane and effective way to control Singapore's stray cats (the term "feral" is not used there) - and it involves sterilizing the cats instead of destroying them.

CWS is a small group making a large impact for feral cats in Singapore. Learn more about CWS at their web site.
